Perhaps I’m crazy, but I see a whole lot of Mustang in the Saab 900 SPG.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

That is all. My mind goes strange places when I get an unexpected day off of work while working consistent 50+ hour weeks.

EDIT: Also phrasing.

I don’t see it... if anything I would have said a larger Mk1 or Mk2 Rabbit/Golf. The 900 doesn’t really look quite like anything else I can think of.

Cornering lamps!!

Looks-wise I don't see it, but place in the used-market I'd reckon it's fairly similar. Accessible old performance car with a strong rival (Mustang/Camaro - Saab/Volvo).

Interesting observation, wouldn’t have thought of it that way.

Yep me too! The weird slope at the back feels a bit the same.

No idea if it plays out like this in reality, but the parallels are there for it to happen.

It also helps that they’re both ‘domestic’ manufacturers, like Ford and GM are in the States.

I’m trying to think what the equivalent would be here in the UK, and I'm fairly certain it's Ford hot hatchbacks vs Vauxhall, although there are very strong contenders with Peugeot and Renault as well so it's kind of a 4-way fight, with the Honda Civic Type R coming in in the early 00s.

The main difference between them is that a Fox is largely a hunk of metal that’s just a vessel for an engine of your choosing, where those 900s are REALLY nice cars. I had an ‘89 900 Turbo immediately after having an ‘88 GT...you can't find two more different cars, but they're both totally awesome.

It’s so wrong. But I love it.

I think the Fox is probably more fun, but the Swede is a better car, right?

I’d say that, yeah. A 900 Turbo also feels a lot newer than its age where the Fox probably feels a little older. My ‘86 had drag suspension bits on it and felt maybe a little older than a ‘69 Corvair I had before it, haha. Foxes are as much fun as you can have for as little money as you'll pay though.

My buddy had one that was terrible, and I agree. Old and fun for the money.
